Position description

A nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, the International Republican Institute (IRI) advances freedom and democracy worldwide by developing political parties, civic institutions, open elections, good governance and the rule of law. IRI has conducted programs in more than 100 counties and is currently active in 65 countries.

The Latin America and Caribbean Division is currently recruiting for a Program Assistant (PA) for one or more programs in Latin America. The PA provides a full range of administrative and programmatic support for selected programs in Latin America.

Position Requirements

Undergraduate degree in political science, international relations or related field and 1 year political or related experience, or equivalent combination.
Fluent in English and Spanish.
Demonstrated strong writing skills in English and Spanish.
Good oral communications and presentation skills in English and Spanish.
Ability to work independently and within a team.
Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced work environment and to multi-task efficiently.
Strong organizational and time management skills, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to travel overseas, if needed.
Demonstrated experience with MS Office, Word, Excel, and Power Point.
Working knowledge of politics, economics, history and culture of Latin America preferred.

Primary Function and Responsibilities

Monitoring, analyzing and reporting on political developments in the region and in specific countries.
Assisting program staff with designing programs and contributing to the drafting of proposals, developing budgets and monitoring and evaluation plans.
Assisting with implementing, monitoring and evaluating programs and drafting quarterly narrative reports on IRI programs.
Assist senior program staff with overseeing spending on program grants, tracking expenses and ensuring compliance with donor and internal financial rules and processes.
Providing efficient and timely action on administrative matters.
Preparing correspondence and program outreach materials.
Coordinate travel arrangements and logistics for staff and trainer travel overseas.
Updating country-specific briefing books and materials.
Conducting research on assigned topics.
Other duties, as assigned.
