Position description

Qualifications:
· Associate Degree in Health Information Management preferred
· RHIT certification or equivalent experience preferred
· One year of Health Information Management or clinical experience required
· Advanced keyboarding skills
· Great attention to detail with excellent skills in English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, proofreading, and editing
· Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and disease processes with ability to recognize inconsistencies
· Ability to communicate clearly in a cooperatve and timely manner with support staff and clinicians when questions arise
· Ability to work well with high work volumes and time constraints

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills Required:

· Knowledge of the functions, procedures, regulations, and responsibilities of the Health Information Management department, Information Technology department, and designated clinical areas
· Ability to operate computer, multiple software applications, and other equipment as necessary
· Proficient in presenting clear oral and written communication.
· Ability to use designated professional reference materials
· Ability to understand and apply relevant legal concepts (e.g., confidentiality)

Job Responsibilities:

· Utilizes computer systems for data entry and processing clinical correspondence by demonstrating job-appropriate computer skills
· Process clinical documentation as assigned to support optimization in clinical care setting.
· Recognizes data inconsistencies, discrepancies, and inaccuracies and clarifies them with the appropriate personnel.
· Follows instructions to ensure finished work is neat, accurate, and complete.
· Maintains concentration while working under pressure with time constraints.
· Functions as team member, maintaining an open, approachable manner
· Easily adjust to frequent changes in procedures and workflow.
· Detail oriented, effectively prioritizing tasks and maintaining good time management skills.
· Uphold ethical standards, practices, department policies/procedures, and organization policies/procedures
· Maintains HIPAA compliance as well as all organization and department policies and procedures.
· Attend all designated mandatory training/in-services, staff meetings, Health Information Management department meetings, Customer Service Excellence training, and other meetings as required
· Actively report issues and assist in effective problem solving.
· Maintain concentration and ability to work under pressure with time constraints.
· Required to work on-site.
· Any other duties as assigned
